Ion Creangă underpass mosaics

Smalt (glass-tile) mosaic panels from around 1981 line the underpass at the foot of str. Ion Creangă, by the “Ion Creangă” Pedagogical University and Piața Dimitrie Cantemir (Buiucani). Filimon Hămuraru drew the design and his brother Petru Hămuraru executed it. On deep-blue grounds the panels carry rippling yellow-and-orange wave bands, a radiant white-and-orange sun/flower medallion, and softer green floral and abstract sections. When the city modernized the underpass in 2023, the mosaic was restored as far as possible and covered with protective glass; the work is not a state-protected monument (unprotected).
