‘Red sun’ mosaic, str. Constantin Stamati 3, Bălți
A gable mosaic on a Soviet residential block at str. Constantin Stamati 3, in the central part of Bălți — Moldova's second-largest city and the country's „northern capital”. The panel shows a large stylised red sun, its rays radiating from the disc, set on a granular field of white tesserae — a simple, emblematic composition built on the contrast between the bright red and the pale ground. The block belongs to the same layer of late-Soviet decorative art as the denser group of facade mosaics along str. Nicolae Iorga and neighbouring streets in central Bălți, an unusual concentration of such works on residential blocks. The author and year are not documented. The work survives in situ and was photographed during photobankmd's CC0 documentation campaign.
