„S. Rahmaninov” gymnasium mosaic, Cahul
A facade mosaic on the „S. Rahmaninov” gymnasium-kindergarten in Cahul, dated 1988. The panel shows three muses inspiring the arts — music, painting and dance — against a background of floral, vegetal and geometric ornament, in keeping with the institution's artistic profile and the name of the composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. The maker is undocumented. Sources disagree on the city sector: the report „Cahul în mozaic” places the work in the Lipovanca sector (in the south-west of the town, on the left bank of the Frumoasa rivulet, a quarter named after the former hamlet Lipovanca of the Lipovan community), whereas the town's architectural-urban study and OpenStreetMap locate the present „S. Rahmaninov” gymnasium/lyceum in the Centru sector, on Strada Păcii 6 — the coordinates used here. The institution has operated since 1946, and the present building was completed in 1991. The mosaic belongs to Cahul's group of Soviet monumental works entered in the local Register of Category B public monuments (Cahul district council decision no. 03/07-V of 17 September 2020). No openly-licensed photograph of the panel exists.
