The City Blossoms and Is Being Built

A monumental smalt panel with bas-relief elements in the main hall of the Central Bus Station (str. Mitropolit Varlaam 58): welders, passers-by and a family with children against a city under construction, strewn with circular medallions — suns, cogwheels and stylised forms — in blues, white, ochre and gold. A second, more abstract band of rosettes and compass-stars runs along the walls of the upper gallery. Made by Mihail Burea and Veceaslav Obuh in the mid-1970s, the mosaic was kept in place after the station was modernised, though it is now partly obscured by kiosks; the work is not a protected monument.
