Mosaic, Valea Mare
A Soviet-era mosaic in Valea Mare, the seat of the like-named commune (together with Buzduganii de Jos, Buzduganii de Sus and Morenii Vechi) in the Ungheni district — a village in the hilly country of the middle Prut, with a population of about 1,564 (2004 census). Its name comes from the long, nearly 20 km valley that runs through the village's territory. The work belongs to the wave of monumental mosaics produced in the villages of the Moldavian SSR in the 1960s–1980s on public façades — houses of culture, schools, shops, bus shelters. Beyond that the mosaic is undescribed: the „Mosaics of Moldova” (Buretz) inventory lists it as surviving, but the placemark records neither the building type, nor the author, nor the year, nor the subject — only the photo source (Gabi Beșliu, processed by Alex Buretz) is preserved. No freely-licensed photograph of the panel could be found, and searches for „Valea Mare” return only the Valea Mare landscape reserve near Ungheni (a natural setting, not the mosaic), so for now the work is only attested, not visually documented.
