A Soviet roadside bus-shelter mosaic in the village of Sărătenii Vechi, Telenești district — an old settlement first attested in 1554 in a charter of Alexandru Lăpușneanu, at the confluence of the Răut with the Dobrușa and the two Ciuluc rivers, once a staging post (etapă) for soldiers, postal couriers, merchants and salt-carriers. The shelter is one of Soviet Moldavia's „mosaic bus stops.” According to photographer Eugeniu Marițoi, who has documented over 170 such stations, the panels in the centre of the country mostly show figures and dances — at Cricova a woman in folk costume, at Slobozia Dușca a hora, and at Sărătenii Vechi the brâul, the traditional chain-dance named for the woven sash (brâu) by which the dancers link. The exact composition cannot be verified from any freely-licensed photograph (inventory photographer: Olesea Vetrila), but the subject — the brâul — is on record. Author and year are undocumented.
