Mosaic at the former „Luminița” library, Cimișeni
A mosaic panel on the end wall of the former „Luminița” village library in Cimișeni (the building is now used as a shop), in the village centre by the town hall and church, just past the bus shelter. Against a dark tessellated smalt ground it lays out a theme of cosmic knowledge: stylized open books, a comet-rocket with a golden tail, planets and stars, beneath the Russian slogan «КНИГА — ФУНДАМЕНТ КОСМИЧЕСКИХ ТРАСС!» („The book is the foundation of cosmic routes!”) — a characteristically Soviet metaphor of reading as the launch-pad of spaceflight. A fluted classical pilaster with rosettes frames the right edge. It is one of two figurative mosaics in Cimișeni catalogued by „Mosaics of Moldova”; the other, an arts panel (a violinist and figures under a radiant sun), is on the former House of Culture (see house-of-culture-cimiseni). Author and year are undocumented.
