Monument mosaic, Costești

Traces of mosaic on the monument known locally as „În deal la fată” („at the maiden, up on the hill”), standing on a ridge above the vineyards beside the L461 road between Ialoveni and Costești (Ialoveni district). The monument is a tall vertical concrete lattice screen-stela on a rough-stone plinth; in front of it a high-relief sculpture shows a girl in Moldovan folk dress, one arm raised, holding fruit (grapes) and a disc-shield. The screen behind her was once faced in smalt mosaic, of which only patches of blue, yellow and gold tesserae now cling to the concrete grid — the rest has fallen away, exposing the bare frame. The work is unprotected (absent from the state register of monuments); its author, year and decorative programme are undocumented. Photographed in 2022 (Wiki Loves Monuments), the mosaic is effectively a ruin — hence the inventory's description, „traces of mosaic”.
