Cinema facade mosaic, Briceni

A Soviet monumental mosaic on the blind end wall of the former cinema in the town of Briceni, at str. Independenței 18. Set in smalt on concrete, the composition is dominated by orange-red with strong blue and white accents over a dense geometric ground: dynamic surging figures — helmeted, arms thrown forward — and a clustered group of silhouettes beneath an arch, beside an emblem-like motif at the top. The cinema was named „50 Years of the Komsomol,” and the heroic, patriotic imagery ties to that Komsomol anniversary. The „Corpus of Monuments of History and Culture of the MSSR, Northern Zone” (1987) records the cinema mosaic — by I. Lencic and V. Novikov, 1973 — confirming both the authors and the date that the „Mosaics of Moldova” inventory had noted as a „monument of local importance, 1973.” The building is now partly repurposed (a repair workshop occupies the ground floor); the panel, though weathered and missing tesserae along the top, survives largely intact.
