A mosaic on the wall of the House of Culture in Puhăceni, a village in the Anenii Noi district on the Dniester floodplain, central Moldova; first documented in 1523. Unlike the many neoclassical houses of culture, the building here is a modernist one, with tall vertical bays of glass and concrete; the mosaic panel is set apart, on a blind side wall. At its centre is a single elongated female figure in a flowing golden dress, framed by an ornamental blue-and-gold aureole of sun, bird and folk motifs — an image that is allegorical rather than narrative. The warm gold-and-blue palette stands out sharply against the surrounding grey render. The artist and year are undocumented. (The „Mosaics of Moldova” inventory records the house-of-culture mosaic specifically; wide shots of the modernist building round out the picture.)
