House-of-Culture mosaic, Molovata
Two mosaic panels on the facade of the House of Culture in Molovata, a village on the right bank of the Nistru (Dniester) in the Dubăsari district (whose administration sits on the right bank, the town of Dubăsari itself lying across the river). The building is a two-storey Soviet house of culture with a classical pediment and a central columned portico; the two end walls flanking the entrance each carry a vertical figurative panel, each with a large radial disc — a sun or a wheel — above a standing figure, in a warm range of ochre, gold and brown. The village is not to be confused with Molovata Nouă, a separate settlement on the left bank linked to it by ferry. The mosaic's artist and year are undocumented; the building has since been renovated, but the panels survive. Molovata is first attested on 10 May 1574.
