The Arta fountain
A fountain in the Ștefan cel Mare public garden, by the Patria cinema on Ștefan cel Mare boulevard 103 (Centru). It was inaugurated in 1983 for the park's 165th anniversary by the architect Alexei Sinelnikov; its shape earned it the nickname “the bowl.” The fountain's curved “petals” are clad in yellow, orange, red and white smalt — with no clear figurative subject, but dynamic curving lines that, seen from above, make the work read as a stylised flower or a bowl. The mosaic is attributed to the Moldovan sculptor Dumitru Scvorțov-Russu (1926–1991), who also made the Alexei Mateevici bust on the Alley of Classics. The fountain has long stopped running, but the mosaic survives; the work is not a protected monument.
