Department-store mosaic, Briceni

A Soviet monumental mosaic panel set high on the wall of the central department store (magazinul universal) in the centre of Briceni, at str. Independenței 1. The composition shows a row of figures in the folk costumes of many peoples — Moldovan women in embroidered blouses and red-orange aprons at the centre — beneath a large radiant sun with a human face and framed by ears of wheat. This „friendship of peoples” theme is worked in a vivid palette: orange, white, blue and green over a dense tessellated ground. The ground floor now houses several shops (a pharmacy, a travel agency). The author, year and exact title are undocumented — the „Mosaics of Moldova” inventory records only a generic Briceni point, with no attribution.
