CHP-1 plant mosaic

A smalt mosaic running along the upper part of the facade of an industrial hall at str. Vadul lui Vodă 5 in the Ciocana district, identified as the CHP-1 (ТЭЦ-1) combined heat-and-power plant. The ribbon panel combines monumental stylized faces, worker figures — one scene shows workers beside a cogwheel — and sun-and-flame motifs in an energy-industry register. The palette is warm: white, yellow, ochre, brick-red and black outlines. Its author and date are unrecorded and the work is absent from the main inventories (neither the “Mosaics of Moldova” catalogue nor the apdance1 survey lists it); it should not be confused with the “Taming of Fire” mosaic (Kuzmin, 1988) on the Termoelectrica building, a separate work.
