'The Old and New City' mosaic, Bender bus station

A mosaic in the interior of the Bender (Tighina) bus station, on the left bank of the Dniester. Titled 'The Old City and the New City', it was made in 1967 by Mihail Burea and Vladislav Obuh — the same pair behind the 'Munca și Arta' ceramic mosaic on the town's Pavel Tkacenko Palace of Culture four years earlier. The panel sets the old Tighina, with its fortress on the Dniester, against the new Soviet town of apartment blocks and industry. It is documented in Natalia Podlesnaia's survey of monumental painting in Bessarabia and the Moldavian SSR; its present state is unconfirmed, as bus-station interiors are often remodelled. Author and year are firmly attributed; the coordinates are those of the station building.
