Bus-shelter mosaic, Trebujeni
A public-transport bus shelter with a mosaic in Trebujeni, a commune seat in the Orhei district, on the bank of the Răut — the gateway village to Orheiul Vechi (Old Orhei), the archaeological and monastic complex carved into the river's limestone gorge. The shelter's interior is clad in a soft, almost painterly mosaic: flowing spirals and scrolls, a central cruciform star, undulating bands and rosettes, in earthy tones of beige, brown and grey with turquoise-blue accents — an abstract decor that seems to echo the surrounding valley-and-cliff landscape. Trebujeni is documented from 1573 and has over 2,000 inhabitants; its grounds cover the medieval Golden-Horde city of Șehr al-Djedid. Unlike the brightly coloured geometric panels of other stops, this is one of the most delicate in palette. The author and year are undocumented — an anonymous Soviet-era work.
