Bus-shelter mosaic, Telița
A bus shelter with a mosaic near Telița, a commune seat in the Anenii Noi district, close to the Dniester. Moldova keeps one of the densest concentrations of rural mosaic bus stops in the former Soviet space, and this is one of the most exuberant in the area: under a cantilevered butterfly roof, the walls are covered in an all-over, near-abstract ornament — starbursts and radial flares, interlaced curved forms and a sun-rosette, in red, blue, gold and white, now faded with patches lost. Telița is one of the oldest settlements on our list: documented between 1443 and 1453, and named in a 1616 deed granting the village to a monastery. The mosaic's author and year are undocumented — an anonymous Soviet-era work.
