Bus-stop mosaic, Mîndreștii Noi
A mosaic bus stop at Mîndreștii Noi, a village in the Sîngerei district of northern Moldova. The panel, spread over a tall flat slab, is the most vividly coloured of the northern group: a "totem" of geometric medallions — overlapping concentric diamonds and stars in cobalt, yellow, emerald green and red, outlined in black on a white tessera ground, like stained glass transposed into stone — framed by a thin geometric border. The work belongs to the Soviet tradition of rural mosaic bus stops; in the 1960s–80s villages decorated their roadside halts, and Mîndreștii Noi even has a dedicated subcategory on Wikimedia Commons (over 30 photographs). The artist and year are undocumented, as with most of these stops. The village is a young settlement, attested in 1919, part of the Bilicenii Noi commune, about 2 km from the commune seat. The photographs come from an openly-licensed Photobank-MD series geotagged at the shelter.
