Bus-shelter mosaic, Ghioltosu
A roadside bus shelter with a mosaic in Ghioltosu (recorded as „Gheltosu” in the inventory), a small village in the commune of Țiganca, Cantemir district, in the Prut valley in the west of the district; it was formerly known as Hâltoasa, in the old Ismail county. The shelter belongs to the wave of mosaic-clad bus stops built along Moldova's roads in the 1960s–1980s; in villages the railway never reached, it was the community's gateway to the wider world, and the mosaic, more than any other feature, defines the Soviet roadside shelter here. The work is anonymous: neither the artist, the year, nor the panel's subject is on record. It is catalogued in the „Mosaics of Moldova” (Buretz) inventory, photographed there by Nadejda Argint, but no openly-licensed photograph of the mosaic exists, so its imagery cannot be described from a verified source.
