Bus-shelter mosaic, Caterinovca

On the edge of Caterinovca village, at the M4 roundabout in northern Transnistria, a Soviet-era bus shelter carries a warm-toned, idealised mosaic of a classic agrarian scene. Three young harvesters stride forward with shovels over their shoulders, framed by apple trees heavy with fruit and a brimming basket of the harvest. The composition — sturdy figures in motion, the laden orchard, the overflowing basket — is a textbook piece of Soviet rural iconography: field labour rendered as bright, optimistic abundance. The artist and year are undocumented; like most decorated roadside shelters it was made anonymously by local craftsmen, likely for a collective farm or the district road department. The station does not appear in the „Mosaics of Moldova” (Buretz) inventory; it is attested by Ștefan Susai’s photographic album „Stații auto cu mozaic din Republica Moldova” (2026).
