Bus-shelter mosaic, Călărași
A Soviet-era mosaic on a bus shelter in the town of Călărași, seat of the district of the same name, in the wooded Codrii region of central Moldova. A small town that grew up around its station on the Chișinău–Ungheni railway, Călărași was a well-known wine centre in the Soviet period, with one of the republic's first wine and cognac factories. Like almost all decorated roadside shelters the mosaic was made anonymously by local craftsmen; neither the artist, the year, nor the panel's subject is on record. The station is catalogued in the „Mosaics of Moldova” (Buretz) inventory, photographed there by Zuza Andrei, but no openly-licensed photograph of the mosaic exists, so its imagery cannot be described from a verified source. The work belongs to the wave of mosaic-clad bus stops built along Moldova's roads in the 1960s–1980s, documented in Ștefan Susai's album „Stații auto cu mozaic din Republica Moldova” (Cartier, 2026).
