Building-facade mosaic, Ungheni

A Soviet-era figurative panel covers the end wall of a two-storey building at str. Națională 20 in the town of Ungheni — recorded in the “Mosaics of Moldova” inventory as the façade of the police commissariat. The vivid composition shows three female figures against rainbow arcs: one in a white robe unfurls a brightly striped band from a round medallion, like an unrolling carpet, beside a kneeling figure and a figure shading her eyes; above them a flowering tree with red blossoms and grape clusters. The bodies are set in white smalt against saturated fields of red, yellow, blue and green — an allegory of plenty in which the carpet motif nods to the town's signature craft. The author and year are not documented.
