Town-hall mosaic, Tohatin
A mosaic on the town-hall building of the Tohatin commune — a village about 7 km east of Chișinău, on the Terraced Plain of the Lower Dniester, administered by the Chișinău municipality (Ciocana sector). A single irregularly-shaped vertical panel is mounted on the wall: a stylised tree of life, its broad braided trunk laid in blue, gold, turquoise and green tesserae, opening at the top into a fan of foliage with red flowers and white birds in flight on a blue ground. It is not a figurative scene with people but a decorative, plant-inspired composition — a fitting motif for an administrative building. The artist and year are undocumented. The Tohatin commune (the villages of Tohatin, Cheltuitor and Buneț) has about 2,520 inhabitants and is first documented in 1517, its name taken from a boyar's estate. A single openly-licensed photograph (Vladikh, CC BY 4.0) records the panel; the building has no geotag, so the pin uses the Tohatin village centroid (approximate).
