Palace of Culture mosaics, Hîncești
Two mosaic panels flank the main facade of the Palace of Culture in Hîncești (Kotovsk in the Soviet era), the first large building to organise the town's centre, opened in 1966. The palace was built to a standard design identical to the House of Culture in Strășeni, from which it differs precisely by carrying the mosaic — set on the lateral risalits that flank the entrance, beneath the paired half-columns of the colossal order. The left panel (towards the town hall) shows four young men striding forward — one in a white zip-up jacket, the others in jackets and caps, one holding a book — beneath a dynamic red-orange arc, an emblem of youthful momentum and labour; the right panel (towards the „St. Nicholas” church) shows two women in Moldovan folk costume, one lifting a basket brimming with grapes and fruit, against a blue ground with a stylised sun and folk borders — an allegory of the land's abundance and of viticulture. No accessible catalogue records the artist or the year; the building dates from 1966, and the mosaics belong to the wave of artistic facing applied to Houses of Culture from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s. The work is in excellent condition.
